Full sleeve Polynesian Tattoo inspired by The Rock Dwayne Johnson

Finally finished Pauls tattoo, Nearly 40hours of work using a combination of the coil and roatary machines to see if there was any noticable difference. The roatry appears to be smoother with a slightly faster healing time...

Paul is a MMA cage fighter who pink ink are sponsoring at the upcoming Canterbury's festive fight night on 28th November

Rotary Tattoo Guns!

Thursday 6th August 2009

People are often surprised to see that I use something other than a traditional tattoo gun. Though I still have a number of beautiful traditional guns I use what is known as a rotary handpiece (tattoo gun) which operates in a more uniform and reliable way. If you were to look at a line of ink done using a traditional gun under a microscope you would see that the dots are slightly uneven and sometimes one or two in a sequence are missed out. However with a rotary gun then the dots are evenly spaced and always present, which is why they are also called binary tattoo guns.

In the video below you get to see me using a rotary handpiece to do outlining and shading, and about half way through the video there is a pretty cool animation showing how the rotary gun actually works!

This new equipment is quite expensive but worth every penny because it helps us deliver an even better quality of tattoo. And I'm directly involved with one of the main companies that makes and prototypes these guns to help them in their research and development, often getting my hands on prototypes before most others! this helps us stay ahead of the rest ;)
